In this ‘Inspired By…’ I will be looking at Lorraine Rigby’s work and life as an artist. I will be getting to the bottom of her work by looking at what techniques she uses, what inspires her and where she makes all of her fabulous creations.
Lorraine lives and works in Liverpool, UK and is a stay at home mother to three young boys. She is a designer for Scrolls Works Stamps which is based in Idaho, USA and she is also part of the creative troupe for C&T Publishing based in California. She is a self taught mixed media who enjoys experimenting with all types of crafts.
Lorraine kindly agreed to answer some of my questions about her work, studio & inspirations:1. Please describe your work and some of the techniques you use.
I really like to work with fabric, wool, paper, rubber stamps. paint and my new love is wall tile adhesive which I prefer to gesso. I try and sketch in my journal when I can with oil pastels. I like making fairly quick projects with paper with lots of layers & texture for interest so that I always have something new to show for all my blog followers2. Who or what inspires your creations?
I have always liked the natural old vintage rust worn look rather than the minimalist new. My garden with the birds and nature in general inspire my work.
3. What was the latest piece you created and how did you make it?
I always have several projects on the go. My current ones are making an apron using lots of patchwork layers, making a corded bowl using aran wool, crocheting a bag and I like making fairly quick projects with paper with lots of layers & texture for interest so that I always have something new to show for all my blog followers4. How often do you get to spend making art and please tell me a bit about your studio/work space.
My time is often limited with the demands of my hectic family life so I try and fit in a little bit of art every day if possible. I haven’t got a lot of money to spend on art materials so this makes me more inventive looking round for items I could use in the house or garden for my art.I haven’t got a studio but my art supplies are in my conservatory with paints, papers etc for my sons to use if they want to my husband would say that our whole house is my studio though as I have wool etc all over the house
